Upcoming Changes at DoE

http://www.icdri.org/images/doe.gifApparently, there are some happenings just around the corner at the U.S. Department of Education, with reauthorization of George Bush’s No Child Left Behind program on the scales now.  Looks like an upcoming change in leadership and tilt in approaches to assessment.

Our friend, Chris Lehmann has an ear on the situation and writes about it in his latest Leader Talk blog entry, Sweeping Changes in NCLB and DoE.  Give it a read and please pay attention to other writings from Scott Mcleod’s (CASTLE) blog community of school leaders.!

LeaderTalk: Sweeping Changes in NCLB and DoE:

Apparently, there are some major announcements coming out of the Department of Education this week. According to a friend of mine at the DoE, “Queen of All Testing” Margaret Spellings is on her way out to be replaced by Doug Christensen, State Education Commissioner of Nebraska. Christensen is best known for creating the STARS (School-Based Teacher-Lead Assessment Reporting System) program, a portfolio-driven system for meeting NCLB requirements.

I’m really excited about this! I’m connecting my school tomorrow. My school has bathrooms in each classroom so it should be easy to set-up. I might even have my class make a video of it tomorrow so we can archive how it easy it is to set up! Let me know what you think.
