Back and a note some won’t like

We just got back from San Francisco, riding the red-eye through the night.  Brenda and I had a delightful drive yesterday throught wine country and along the coast on highway 1.  I think we saw some really big trees, but it was getting dark by then.

I’ve had to add a capcha feature back to the commenting for 2¢ Worth.  Just too much spam, and I’m on the road for the next two weeks.  If anyone knows of a really great spam blocker for WordPress, please share.

  1. I am glad you had a great drive — we are proud of our Northern California coast line.

I use Spam Karma2 and AntiSpam Image for WordPress and NOTHING is getting through. SpamKarma also sends me a digest each week (you can set the options) so I can see how well it is doing. Right now — it has eaten 1645 spams that I never saw.

I was also using Challenge — but for some reason it started doing multiplication as well and my comentrs don’t come to post and then like to have a math problem forced upon them. 🙂 So I took it down.

Anyhew — that is what is working for me.

  2. Akismet is what you want Dave. It’s smart, updates itself based on comments you mark manually as spam, and continually learns from the central Akismet server. Mine reguarly catches hundreds of spam a week and lets through less than half a dozen spam comments over the typical week. The nice thing is, once I mark those as spam, they won’t ever come back 🙂

If you’ve upgraded to the latest WordPress, then you should have Akismet already built in, just have to get an API key from the Akismet site or from wordpress.com when you sign up for a free account.
