I just got this from Lisa Harrison at Passionately Curious. I tried in the little time I have right now, to dig down to what’s going on. Lisa’s Did You Know 2.0 post offers an embedded link to a pretty spiffy update of Karl Fisch’s landmark Did you Know video. This incarnation was apparently put together by Portland, Oregon media company, XPlane.
Lisa also references a Did You Know or Shift Happens wiki that may have been around for some time now — but I didn’t know about it. I am especially pleased to see bibliographies now for the various versions of the video.
With all that behind me, this is a pretty impressive video. My remaining question, “Is the music copyrighted?”
Changing from copyrighted music was one of the changes they made. Scott Mcleod talks about the evolution of this on his blog and about the wiki. It is a great piece of video.works for a lot of audiences and hopefully will encourage conversation. I am sending a copy to our district level.
Copyrighting of music is very important..it always has been. Your question is an intelligent one.
Thanks for the kind words, David, about the new version. More info here:

Thanks also for joining the wiki. We look forward to seeing your contributions!

This is an even nicer version that won design awards with judges like Garr Reynolds. http://www.slideshare.net/jbrenman/shift-happens-33834
Sandy, Jeff Brenman did a great job revamping the old version. I should set it to music sometime…
Copyright is an important issue. One that crossed my path a little while ago. A very steep learning curve for me, especially when you consider the international issues we face in the edublogossphere.

Hi David — Thanks for the kinda words on the video. The whole video is released under a creative commons “share and share alike license”. Therefore the music (and in fact the whole video) can be used in projects stemming from this original video, as long as those projects are also released under the same license and made available for all to use. We specifically chose this license to make it as easy as possible to share and use. Hopefully this clarifies any copyright issues.
